The Endless Debate - Ruby vs. Php?
A while ago, we asked the freeCSScart community a question… the question was, which language would you prefer freeCSScart to be programmed in?
You can see all the answers here.
- Fact: freeCSScart is community oriented.
- Fact: We are creating this product for a niche market.
- Fact: We desire to create this product around the communities desires.
Because of those simple facts, we have decided the following. The freeCSScart client-side, will be created in Php!
Right now, the admin panel is in solely Ruby on Rails, that will stay the same. But for the client-side, we have decided to create it in Php. The client side is the area that the users of the actual shopping-cart process will see.
Thanks for the community input! We will be asking more questions soon.

just a heads-up…having “Supporting The Effort” as the text above your Adsense ads will result in a ban, if I’m not mistaken, once Google finds out…they explicitly say in their policy:
May not encourage users to click the Google ads by using phrases such as “click the ads,” “support us,” “visit these links,” or other similar language
just an FYI.
It’s been awhile, I’m also curious about what you guys are up to.
Any updates? Do you have any dates in mind when the beta will be available?
Guys, what’s going on? Why there are not updates? When beta version will be available?
Great News!
confused (no longer),
Yes, we will be using Php to build the client side.
You should also look into the gallery module market and/or a gallery+zen-cart type of integration which may arise as an issue in the future. If you did that then probably you’d be rich enough to gain revenues.
Anyway, are you using any PHP framework to build the client-side?
Wow! Great to hear! I’m glad that you guys are actually listening to the community. Looking even more forward to the release!
